Blessings of Christmas in Two Colors & $100 Giveaway!

We have a special treat for you today on The Shabby!
Jennifer Bosworth has designed a gorgeous new Block of the Month quilt, Blessings of Christmas
And... it's available in two colorways to suit your taste and decor!

Blessings of Christmas Morning
Blessings of Christmas Night

Plus, I had the time to sit down with Jennifer to give you the inside story on her latest design and the inspiration behind it. Listen in…

Jessie: What was the biggest inspiration behind your new design?

Jennifer: I love Christmas! It’s my favorite holiday.

Jessie: What is your favorite Christmas memory?
Jennifer: Making Christmas cookies with my family.

Jessie: Do you ever eat the dough raw?
Jennifer: Oh yeah! (laughs) That's the best part! I’ll take my chances with the raw eggs!

Jessie: You’re offering this quilt in two colorways: Morning and Night. Can you tell us a little about the reason behind that decision?
Jennifer: The original design idea was with a cream background.  But when I think of Christmas, I think of the Holy Star, which, of course, would have been most brilliant at night. I started with just the church block having a blue background, but it seemed odd to have only one block have that color and everything else be cream. Thus blue was added to all the blocks and then the "Night" version of Blessings of Christmas was born!

Jessie: Which colorway is your favorite?
Jennifer: I love them both!

Jessie: Did you ever get “stuck” during your design process and how did you overcome it?
Jennifer: I got stuck when I was trying to choose between the two color versions of the quilt. I've never offered a quilt in two colorways before and felt I had to decide between the two. I overcame it by remembering how Christmas is special both at night and in the morning, so I chose both!

Santa's sleigh with real bells!
Jessie: Do you let anyone see your work while it’s in progress or do you make them wait until you’ve completed it?
Jennifer: Most of the time I make them wait, but then I solicit input from my family, friends and staff before releasing the final design.

Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing the story behind Blessings of Christmas with us! We are so excited to be offering this quilt to you, our loyal customers, in four different ways. Your options are:

Blessings of Christmas Morning: Traditional or Laser-Cut
Blessings of Christmas Night: Traditional or Laser-Cut

Since it's such a gorgeous design, we wanted to make sure the Block of the Month program was versatile enough to please everyone! Whether you’re a morning bird or a night owl, whether you enjoy cutting your individual appliques or want the ease and simplicity of laser-cut, this program is for you! If you're new to traditional applique, Jennifer has a wonderful video tutorial series to help you get started. Or, if you think you want to try laser-cut applique this time, but aren't quite sure what laser-cut is all about, click here for a quick introduction!

Whether you choose traditional or laser-cut applique, you will receive all of the die-cut snowflakes and embellishments to complete the quilt. With the program starting in January 2014 and running for 10 months, you’ll be able to show off your latest creation at next year's Christmas gathering!

Blessings of Christmas
Silk Thread Kit
When signing up for the program, don’t forget about the option to add the backing fabric. We also recommend the Silk Thread Kit for those choosing traditional applique.

Signing up for the program is just $10 to reserve your spot! The traditional option is $28 per month plus shipping and the laser-cut option is $36 per month plus shipping. The monthly shipping cost is $6 US and $9 International.

  1. I love the night version the best. One of my favorite Christmas memories is the
year I gave Santa a test. I was at the age of not believing and decided to give him a test. Guess what he answered all the questions right and could even draw a picture of himself.

  2. I love the night version best. I think that I always think of Jesus being born at night, the angels appearing to sleeping shepherds and the star leading the wise men to the Baby.

  17. I like the morning quilt the best. I love the wreath block as it bring back memories of the wreath my mum would always hang on our front door. Since moving out of home (10 years ago), I couldn't put my finger on why, but I didn't feel my Christmas decorations were complete, until last year, my mum gave me my own wreath for my front door! Now I feel like it's Christmas!

  18. The night quilt is my favorite. The candy cane quilt block popped out at me. I also like the wreath and the bells. My favorite memory is Santa waking us up Christmas Eve. fran.daoust@yahoo.com

  19. Both are equally stunning but I have to pick the Morning backgrounds as my favorite. I love the Christmas wreath block. My favorite memory is driving through surrounding neighborhoods at night to look at all the lights... it was an inexpensive method of family entertainment!

  21. I like the night version best. My favorite block is the center one that shows the Christmas tree, the church & snowman since they all 3 are reminders of the Christmas season.

One of my favorite Christmas memories was when we (there are 4 of us girls) were little, Daddy & Mama would load us in the car on Christmas eve night to drive around & look at the Christmas lights on homes in our little town. Daddy was always the last one to get out of the house & into the car. After driving around for about an hour Daddy would suddenly say "Look up there, I think I see Santa & his sleigh." We would all be excited looking out our car windows trying to see Santa in the starry night sky until at last we were home. Sometimes we each thought we had seen him too. When we walked into the house, sure enough Santa had eaten our cookies, drank the glass of milk & left us our Christmas gifts. This tradition continued even after we were all old enough to know that Daddy & Mama were our Santa! My sisters & I carried on this tradition with our own children & hope they carry it own with theirs too.

  22. I love both versions, but I think the morning colorway is my favorite. The angel block with her folk art appearance is the block I like best. What a gifted quilter/artist you are Jennifer.

  23. I love the daytime version and my favorite block is the gingerbread house. It brings back memories of my mom and I making the gingerbread house every year. I am the only girl amongst my three brothers and they wanted nothing to do with the making so it was special time for me and my mom.

  24. I love the nighttime version and the church block! I love celebrating and decorating with my church family and my extended family. darmi@sdplains.com

  25. Which one to pick??? They are both beautiful, but I do love the night one the best. My favorite block is hands down Santas sleigh full of presents! As far as my favorite Christmas memory well...here goes...my sister, brother and I were raised by our grandparents since we were babies/toddlers. Grandpa and Grandma always made the Holidays special for us. But...Christmas was Magical! Christmas Eve we were blessed with a special visit from Santa and his 2 elves...along with a surprise for each of us out of his red bag. Then after they left, off to bed we would go with anticipation of what would be waiting for us under the tree in the morning. I specifically remember one special Christmas Eve when we had retired to our beds, both my brother and I were attempting to go to sleep when we both heard reindeer footprints on the rooftop. Was it Santa and his reindeer...or was it Grandpa throwing pebbles onto the roof? We still can't decide which one it was after all these years. Isn't Christmas magical...

  26. Wow!!! What a wonderful giveaway. I love the nighttime colorway and the church block is my favorite. I love snow on the churches and the feeling of Christmas Eve service.
I am not sure about favorite Christmas memory. I think it must have been the second year in our Silverdale house when I had each parent & grandparent use a scrapbook page to write their favorite Christmas memory. Later we added pictures to go with the memory if we could. Three of those loved ones are gone now, making the memory in their handwriting exceptionally special.

The daytime colorway and the church block are my favorites. The church block reminds me of why we celebrate Christmas--Jesus is the reason for the season.

My favorite Christmas memory is my children waking us up early, early each Christmas to see what Santa left for them under the tree. Such sweet, sweet memories.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is a hard question. I think I like the Day colorway the best. I love the church block because I love the snowman, and the whole meaning of Christmas is following the north star and celebrating Christ.
My favorite Christmas memory is leaving the cookies and milk for Santa. It is a family tradition to make cookies on Christmas Eve with the kids and then they get to get out their special plate to put cookies on for Santa. I still have my own special plate and in our family each child gets to pick one out and they keep it forever for their special cookies. My kids have their special plates too. Then we have a big christmas glass that gets milk poured in it after it comes out of the freezer to set next to their plates. To see their eyes on Christmas morning when they realize Santa ate the cookies and drank the milk is wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is really a hard question! After a half hour of looking at both "day" & "night", I chose "night". My favorite block is the Church. Snowman is my absolute favorite!

I grew up in Hawaii and raising 7 children, buying Christmas gifts was a luxury for my parents. We may not have Christmas presents to open up, but we had a feast that my mother would cook up.
Well one year, my parents surprised us on Christmas day with presents. I remember seeing all my sibling faces when they saw the presents. There was one present for each of us...it was the most unforgettable moment that each of us still remember til this day! 8)

  64. For sure, I love the Morning version best, and my favorite block is definitely the sleigh -- love those little bells. My favorite Christmas memory: It was 1960 and I got my first Barbie, you know, the one with the short curly hair, bathing suit, and tiny high heels. I spent some time playing with her, checking out all of the moving pieces. Then it was time to clean up, and my father gathered up all of the wrapping paper and put it in the trash. After clean up I realized one of her high heels was missing. My father very carefully picked through all of the wrapping paper looking for that tiny shoe, but we never found it. But I love my father for making the effort!

At my home as a child we each got to open one present on Christmas eve and it was always new pj's we carried that tradition along and added to that going out and looking at Christmas lights while we were all in a Christmas mood. Christmas baking was also a really big part of my Christmas as a child and continues on as an adult with my own children who are now passing it along to their children. We have some really special cookie recipes

  72. I adore the Christmas morning version (love both but the morning slightly edges out the night one for a favorite for me). And my favorite Christmas memory was our poorest as a kid. I have three siblings, all younger than I, and the family was going through rough times, so I got my brothers and sister excited to make each other our version of board games we wanted so badly and had played at friends' houses. We had cardboard boxes, glue, tape, pins, crayons, and we all picked a room and made games. We ended up with Sorry, Pacheesi and Checkers. LOL And we played those all Christmas day. We were all under 12 years old, and it was a great Christmas!

  130. My favorite is the night version. I like the contrast. Thanks for offering the laser versions of your quilts. With my hectic schedule it is difficult to find time to do all the quilting I would like to do. The time savings with the laser version allows me to tackle more detailed quilts. My email address is djkyak@comcast.net.

  134. I like the night version! And my favorite block is the wreath. As for a Christmas tradition, we used to get together with my cousins on Christmas eve. The rule was that we couldn't open presents until after the dishes got done. One year my cousin Doug and I were so impatient that we washed the supper dishes for our moms to get the show on the road, which became a tradition. Christmas eve supper was always oyster stew and chili.

  151. I prefer the Blessings of Christmas Morning as that was when we opened our presents from Santa. And my favorite block is the gingerbread house. I used to enter gingerbread houses in the annual Wilton contest (never won but it was still fun to create one). Stephanie (sleuthesser@yahoo.com)

  153. I like the morning version, and I love the church block in the center. I have many wonderful memories of Christmas, so it's hard to choose just one. Waiting for Grandma's Christmas box to arrive with her special peppernut cookies was always a treat to look forward to. On Christmas morning our family would listen to Dad read the Christmas story, pray, and then we would take turns opening our gifts. With 7 siblings it took a while, but it was always so special to share together in that way.

  157. I like the Night version the best. My favourite Christmas memory is of Christmas 1969, which was spent in England living in a Victorian terrace house. Lovely large bow window, that when filled with a Christmas tree reminded me of a Christmas card. It was also the first year that my Parents made us get dressed and make our beds before entering the living room to open presents, but this gave them time to light the fire in the big fireplace and warm the room. Of course this added to the atmosphere and when my sisters & I walked into the room which was lit with small lamps & the fire in the grate. Under the tree were 3 tall piles of individually wrapped presents topped with a Sindy doll (similar to Barbie) dressed in a lace crinoline - all in different colours. I still have my doll and last week I found a stand for her, so tomorrow I am off to buy lace to remake the dress that rotted away several years ago.

I will share your post on fb, I also receive your newsletter and not sure about twitter.
